We have been taught from an early age to manage and save our money for a rainy day and we plan financially for our future needs. We write wills, make investments and even pay professionals to make sure it is all done properly. But where does our health and wellness fit into this future planning? Usually not at all, it simply doesn't seem to have the same importance as our money yet without it all the money in the world is not much use. What we do in the way of strength building and maintaining exercise is going to have a huge impact on our health later in life. You could think of your exercise program as a savings account at the bank. Every time you work out you are making a deposit that not only benefits us today, but is an investment in our future. Unfortunately, many of us focus so much on the present, just getting through the day and then the week that we do not even consider how our exercise decisions will affect us down the road. As the years pass we tend to become less active, settling into a lifestyle that often does not have much or any vigorous activity in it. Yet this is the time we need to get going as everything is deteriorating - fast. Muscle tissue is being lost, along with a loss of strength, there is a continuing loss of bone density, body fat is increasing both on the inside and outside of the body, and the metabolism (the body's engine) is slowing down. Blood-sugar tolerance is reduced and there is an increase in disease risk from a faltering immune system. Being largely inactive brings on so many negative issues such as joint and postural problems. Muscles shorten and joints become unstable as connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments weaken. The end result is a body that hurts with general stiffness, weakness and knee/back problems. All that is needed is a strengthening plan to lengthen muscles and create sturdier tendons and ligaments to hold things properly in place. Although these are signs of getting older they are also signs of not doing enough strength maintaining activity and are signs that we should not ignore if we are to enjoy a healthy long life. Being active combats many of the issues that make aging a scary proposition. So you can see how important your health and wellness is especially as the years tick by. Fitness matters - a lot. In fact it is even more important than accumulating wealth, property, cars or any other material items. Yet somehow the focus has shifted and we need to pull it back to what really matters which is our physical strength and fitness and the influence is has over our health and wellness when we need it most - later in life. If you are not already get yourself started on a proper program that consists of mainly strength training exercise so you when you do get older you will have a large balance of exercise points in the bank. Then you will be truly wealthy.
