If you want to take off - and keep off - unwanted excess body fat, a healthy metabolism is your very best friend. With a well-honed metabolism (your body's engine) you can bolster your fat-burning and fitness-training regimens in significant ways. And a sluggish metabolism can put a damper on your most valiant weight-loss efforts. To optimize your body's fat burning and energy producing machinery you need to start by leaning just a little about how it works. Then you have the tools that can work to boost your metabolism to keep your weight under control in powerful ways. Your metabolism refers to the chemical and physical reactions occurring in all of your body's tissues from breaking down food into energy and repairing and replacing old worn out body cells and tissue. These processes allow you to build strength and stamina, maintain a healthy weight and build resistance to aging and disease. The way your metabolic motor can help you the most if your goal is weight loss is to have it running at its very best. If it has been allowed to slow and become inefficient through not doing enough physical activity or incorrect eating it is highly likely you will become overweight and expose yourself to many serious health risks as well. The condition of your muscle tissue is one of the very most important factors in keeping your metabolism in good health. So if you have not been doing enough strength building and maintaining activity and your muscles have become weak and flabby you will be burning less fuel than you should be. This means that more fuel (calories) gets stored as excess body fat which is why you become overweight. The way to give your metabolic engine a tune up and get it running hot again so it can burn off that stored fuel is to work your muscles with a proper exercise program made up of mostly strength training exercise. Your muscles are made up of highly active tissue so by keeping them strong and toned your energy levels increase. This really is the secret to having a lean, healthy, slim and trim body. If you are already overweight and have been on and off restrictive food diets it is likely you have a 'slower than it should be' metabolic rate. Along with your strength training program you will need to get a healthy eating plan in place that includes multiple small meals every 2-3 hours throughout the day with a serving of protein at each meal. In the interest of fueling your metabolic fire, feed your body a balanced range of wholesome, natural high-quality whole foods and reduce the processed and refined foods as much as possible. Ditch the sugar and white flour and other chemical laden foods. Improving your metabolic health is well within your reach. And best of all, the adjustments you make with your exercise and eating plan that will optimize your metabolism will also positively and powerfully influence your overall health and vitality. Staying in shape will be easier and more enjoyable over the long haul.
