Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: You Have To Do More Than Wish For A Strong Lean Healthy Body

2010-04-07

Since ancient times, we humans have been keenly interested in developing and preserving our youthful vigor, vitality and looks. Today, we have a greater understanding of the aging process and now have more tools to delay it. Public demand for interventions of all kinds from hormone therapies to medicinal supplements is outpacing our current knowledge.

But while we are looking for the 'Fountain of Youth" there is a very simple and possibly the most effective method for living a longer, healthier and fuller life and it is available right now. Research has found over and over again the closest thing to an anti-aging pill or treatment is proper exercise.

The number one bio-marker of the aging process is loss of muscle tissue. Our bodyweight is made up of up to 50 percent of active and vital muscle tissue but our increasingly sedentary world means we do not get to use our muscles like our ancestors who had to be very active just to survive. Now we do little but sit all day. Up to 80 percent of our day is spent sitting... in our cars, at our job, in our leisure time and on the couch maintaining our addiction to television.

Muscle tissue loss is the consequence and its loss drags down our health and not only do we get fat we get sick. Millions of lives are cut short every year due to our new modern day lifestyle of inactivity. So if you want to stay young and healthy the first thing you need to do is get yourself started on a program of strength training exercise to prevent and even restore muscle tissue loss.

No other type of exercise will do this so forget long slow endurance activity. These things are fine for recreation but should never replace a proper strength building and maintaining exercise program.

One of the many benefits of proper exercise is that it will get and keep body composition (muscle/fat ratio) in a healthy range. Strength training increases your metabolism which is your body's engine so you will burn more fuel (calories) both while you are exercising and while you are at rest.

When we restore our strength the health benefits are enormous. Fatigue melts away as stronger muscles and bones take up their support positions easing the strain on our cardiovascular (heart/lung) and skeletal systems. When the body's efficiency is increased less energy is needed to maintain itself which then becomes available for you to use in other activities and daily living.

We can get surgery and all sorts of treatments and injections, but not one surgeon in the world can give us an all-over shapely, lean firm body that proper exercise can. Forget the expensive procedures and get yourself started on a strength training exercise program at you local gym or fitness center that will rejuvenate all of your body cells and stop the aging process dead in its tracks.
