Latest Breaking News - Travel - Viewing: Yachting On The Adriatic Sea

2010-05-03

The Adriatic Sea is one of the most beautiful waterbodies in Europe, especially in summer when it is calmed down to unbelievable gentleness by the "maestral", the summer wind.

This beautiful, scenic sea is bounded on the west by Italy, and on the East by Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina among other East European countries. There are over twenty major cities along its coast, making a yachting vacation a beautiful and novel way to visit this little-explored part of Europe.

The serenity of the Adriatic Sea makes it a favored place for regattas, or yacht races. Smaller regattas are among 10 vessels, while larger ones can involve as many as 50 vessels, all trying to traverse a portion of the Adriatic as fast as they can.

Naturally, regattas can be as long or as short as one wishes - from a few hours to several days long. The time devoted to a regatta usually depends on the expertise of the sailor and the strength of his/her team.

Another highly popular reason for renting yachts is to host corporate events. Today, a number of corporate events are held offshore - either on airplanes or on yachts. Alternatively, the corporate sector has also been known to send its teams - with or without families - on vacations together. This is seen as an exercise in team building.

What could be a better way to refine and train a team than to sail a yacht together - an unfamiliar activity in a new environment? Everyone has to tax mind and body to a certain extent, people have to divide responsibilities according to aptitude and ability, leaving no room for lapses.

For family vacations, yachts are an excellent way to promote family bonding, and have a shared activity for parents and children. A solo yachting vacation is also a possibility, but requires a certain amount of previous expertise.

The best thing about sailing a yacht by oneself/oneselves is that there are no interruptions from strangers. While many people enjoy being waited on hand and foot, there are also those who prefer to be alone sometimes, completely responsible for their own happiness. If you do want guidance, you can also hire a skippered boat, where an experienced sailor acts as your yacht's captain, helping with navigation and instructing new sailors.

A yachting vacation of a few days can be a wonderful experience on its own, and can also be your method of transit from one Adriatic port to the other. For example, you can travel across the breathtaking Kornati archipelago, situated roughly between the cities of Zadar and Sibenik in Croatia.

East Europe is one of the most under-explored travel destinations in the world, and has only recently opened up to large-scale tourism. Take advantage of this while the serenity remains!

For sailing Holidays, Croatia is one of the best possible destinations in the world. With a reliable source for Yacht charter, Croatia becomes as accessible by sea as it does by land.
