Sunday, November 15, 2009 Millions of people around the world are sadly discovering battling a chronic disease can steal everything from you along with your health and the life force within you. A chronic disease can leave you as helpless as a baby while destroying your strength, your energy, your dignity, your mind, your life savings and your future. But you don't have to be a victim. You can protect yourself from even the most devastating chronic diseases such as the 'big three' heart disease, cancer and diabetes along with at least 50 others. The World Health Organization has stated that 80 percent of all chronic disease is preventable through low-cost lifestyle strategies that we each can do that require no prescription drugs. It is a sad reality that today's society believes that health can be found in a pill. But even with millions of dollars invested in research disease stalks and attacks one out of every two people in our world. The decline in our health parallels our continuing avoidance of anything that vaguely resembles physical activity and the decline in the quality of the food we eat. Although you may think you are getting away with it, under the surface things are happening that can cause you to function below your potential. Blood doesn't pump as efficiently, digestion doesn't break down food properly, you can constantly feel tired, body weight keeps increasing and you simply may not feel as well as you could. As the body's efficiency drops, more negative symptoms may appear and eventually a disease may show itself. This can take years or even decades and often when the disease appears it is way too late to fix it. At best it can be managed but the quality of life its victim faces is well below that which makes life enjoyable. You may wonder then what real health is. And the answer to that is real health is more than just an absence of disease. It is having strength, energy, vitality and a zest for life and living and, having all of these things in abundance. When you are really healthy you don't get sick - your body has the ability to fight off disease. There is no way you are robbed of your health and often life itself with a preventable 'lifestyle disease'. Real health gives you peak performance physically, mentally and emotionally and when you have these things you will have a long life span with a health span to match. This is very different from the shorter life spans many people face today after often suffering from ill health for many years. The only way to keep your self strong, healthy and well is to firstly have a proper exercise program made up of mostly strength training exercise firmly in your life. It is not optional or a "try it and see if I like it scenario" it is essential if you wish to maintain health. The next thing you need to do is avoid like the plague as many refined and processed foods (anything in a pretty box) as possible. Those two things alone done properly will go a long way to protect your health which is something we all need to take responsibility for. After all if we don't look after it who else will? It is no good drifting along without a single care about your wellness until something goes wrong and expecting a doctor to fix it. It could well be too late at this stage and a high price paid for not doing general maintenance on your body. Even if you are already sick, get stuck in with your exercise program and healthy eating plan. You can certainly improve your situation and might even be able to reverse it. You could even end up with more strength, energy and zing in your life than you can scarcely imagine when you give your body the tools it needs to look after itself.
