Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Want To Lose Weight For The Long Term?

2009-06-09

You can see it in the mirror, in the numbers creeping up on the scale and in the tight waistband on your pants. You don't like the way you look and you don't feel great about yourself either. It is time to do something about it but just the thought of another diet brings to mind feelings of hunger, failure, cravings for forbidden foods and a fridge full of wilted lettuce and celery sticks.

You dream of a better way to lose this excess weight, trim down, look good, and feel great. Well you don't have to dream any longer. This can become a reality by developing a new style of living that focuses on lifelong healthy habits rather than a short term 'diets' that won't work short term and definitely not long term either.

Choosing a lifestyle solution for long term weight management involves making proper physical exercise a regular habit. This helps to de stress you which will help you deal with negative thoughts that trigger overeating. The other piece of the fitness/weight loss puzzle is forming a positive relationship with healthy eating.

This may mean changing the mind set from the 'dieting' one to eating enough food to support a proper exercise program so you can speed up your metabolism (your body's engine). This is often exactly the opposite of what we have been doing for a very long time. We tend to eat less food when we notice we are gaining weight and this is in fact one of the main reasons for becoming overweight.

When you incorporate these important factors into your life, your weight will gradually change to a healthy weight you can maintain. There is no other way and you need to accept this otherwise you will struggle with your weight and eventually your health all of your life.

So, what you need to do is get your proper exercise program firmly in place. Get some help from a fitness professional so that it will work as it is supposed too. It needs to be made up of mostly strength training exercise. Forget all of the long, slow, low intensity activity. That will never ever speed up your metabolism (your body's engine) and that is what you must do if losing weight is your goal.

Next get your eating right, no less than 1800 calories per day for a woman or 2200 for a man. And this should be built up over a period of time. Think more not less, more food, more energy, more strength, more exercise and more fat loss.

Eat 5-7 small meals each day with at least 20 grams of protein at each one. Spread them out every 2-3 hours throughout the day. Prepare them the night before and take them with you wherever you go in the day. Each meal should be around 300 calories and include lots of raw and cooked vegetables.

Don't waste your time any longer on diets that fail 98% of the time. This solution will work 100% for you but the hardest part will be changing your mindset to believe that. This is what you need to work on first then success will be yours.
