Between the stresses of work, family and social lives trying to consciously live a healthy life can be difficult, given all of the pressures our modern world inflicts on us. It is easy to fall into the habits of poor eating and a sedentary lifestyle. But it is a big ask to stay healthy and at an ideal weight unless you exercise regularly. Unfortunately there is a high price to pay for not doing enough strength building and maintaining activity. The loss of muscle tissue in the number one bio-marker of the aging process and if it isn't stimulated constant work, your body senses that you don't need it. Metabolically, it is expensive for the body to have to keep and maintain it so you start to lose it and muscle tissue is just the beginning... From the top of your head right down to your toes, being active physically is the mechanism that stimulates 'growth and repair' hormones that get every cell, tissue and organ working at its best. Without the necessary vigorous movement the human body needs to stay healthy it negatively affects all body systems. It affects them right down at cellular level where the ability to transfer life enhancing oxygen to the cells from the bloodstream is diminished. If you are not getting as much oxygen from the blood as you need everything from getting up out of a chair, climbing a flight of stairs, or doing the daily tasks and activities of living become much harder to accomplish. Quality of life is reduced. Not being active also has a negative impact on the body composition muscle/fat ratio as without enough activity body fat accumulates adding up to 5 pounds per year. This is mostly abdominal fat which is often hidden inside the abdomen hindering the ability of major organs to do their job and increasing the risk of major killer diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Without the calming medicinal affect of regular exercise an inactive person is more likely to suffer from anxiety, uncontrolled stress and depression. Mental and emotional health is equally as important as physical health and they are closely linked together. When one is not up to par it is likely the others aren't either. It makes good sense that to stay strong and fit with proper exercise is much cheaper than the alternative of trying to heal health ailments or complication brought on by believing you can get away without it and that there will be no repercussions. But it is much easier and cheaper to budget for a gym membership and some training clothes than a wheelchair and a nurse. But it is like parking your car in a tow away zone, until you get caught and get a ridiculously expensive ticket; you keep trying to get away with it. Accept that there is just no way around it and get yourself going because, if you don't, you do have a lot to lose. Not exercising will catch up with you somewhere down the track and you will have to deal with the consequences of not taking care of yourself. You might be the only one who knows you don't bother to exercise but, know this. As time slips by your body is not just frozen in time waiting to get moving. It is fading....
