You look in the mirror and do not like what you see. Your belly is bigger than it should be and your muscles are soft and flabby. All those years of not caring, eating whatever, whenever and living a no exercise lifestyle hit you fair in the face. You feel a rush of anger or dismay as you continue to face the cold hard facts as you assess your body. Its condition only compounds what you are feeling about yourself and your life. This place of rock bottom can be the necessary motivating factor that leads the way for change and a resolve to do something about it. You know you need to start exercising and eating right but sometimes the process itself seems overwhelming. Thoughts and emotions may be even be conflicting and opposing each other which further make the process confusing and frustrating. It is not uncommon for people facing the task of losing weight and getting back their strength and fitness for it to seem like an impossible mountain to climb - almost out of reach. Years of crash dieting and fits and starts with bouts of exercising and inconsistent effort take their toll. Others, simply never get to the point of really trying. In both situations the impact on ones motivation and self help attitude is pretty much the same. With a sense of panic some people may embark on a harsh dieting regime or start doing hours of low intensity activity that is a ticket to nowhere. The resolve that you feel to do something about your situation need to be channeled in the right direction so you can continue for the long haul. You must not keep on trying and failing, as each day and each week draws to a close and you still are floundering around going in multiple directions with your exercise and eating plans your resolve will start to fade and be eroded away. You need to strengthen that resolve and build it even bigger and the way to do this is with small successes. Start with small changes, ones that you can nail and get cemented into your life before you tackle bigger changes. You must make it so you will win no matter how small the goal is and not fail. It could be something as simple as getting your first meal of the day - your breakfast right. Make sure that this meal has at least 20 grams of quality protein and you can do that each and every morning for a couple of weeks. Then make another small meal and eat it a few hours later. Plan and prepare ahead and take that meal with you wherever you go during the day. So your first goal is to get just two meals right. Then some weeks later try for another meal or two and so on till you are eating 4-6 meals each and every day with a source of protein and the balance vegetables This is how you will need to eat to lose body fat and fuel your proper exercise program. The other important step you should be working on cementing into your life that will transform your body is to get started on a proper exercise program that contains mostly strength training exercise. No other low intensity recreational activity is going to be able to change your body where it needs changing - your muscular system. This will in turn boost your metabolism so you can be burning more fat both day and night even when you are sleeping or resting. Keep your long duration activity for when you have time left over; never replace your proper strength training program with ineffective exercise if you want results. Just start with two sessions of your strength training program each week working your whole body in each session with just six exercises. Work at doing those exercises with some effort - quality and not quantity for the best results. Remember any journey worth embarking on is made up of hundreds of small but very important steps. Each healthy meal and each workout is a step closer and will get you up any mountain that exists eventually whether it is real or just in your mind.
