In order to improve safety, various materials have been developed and incorporated in various applications. One of the greatest materials that have been developed by man is composite materials. These materials are actually a combination of two or more material to produce better and improved material characteristics. The main objectives of incorporating two or more materials into just one material are: to supplement the weaknesses of the component materials; and to enhance the desirable properties of the component materials.

One of the most popular composite materials today is bullet proof glass. Bullet proof glass is technically a type of laminated glass. While a laminated glass is a glass type which holds together when shattered, bullet proof glass has the ability to resist shattering, most especially one that is caused by a bullet shot. The basic concept of laminated glass is the layering of fibers in between glass layers in order to keep the glass material stronger and more compact.

The most common type of fiber that is used for bullet proof glass layers is polycarbonate. This material has the capacity to resist the penetration of bullets. Thus, bullet proof materials provide a safer alternative for construction materials. There is a wide variety of bullet proof products that are out in the market.

These products are more recognizable by their trade names. The trade names usually refer to the main material component of the bullet proof products. Some of the bullet proof products that are highly demanded in the market include bullet proof windows, bullet proof wall panels, bullet proof drywalls, bullet resistant doors, armored cars, and bullet resistant transparencies to name a few.

Mostly, bullet resistant wall panels are used in the construction of safe rooms and panic rooms. On the other hand, bullet resistant drywalls are used as reinforcements to existing walls. Moreover, bullet proof glass is used in bullet proof cars and armored cars as well. Bullet resistant transparencies are usually used in banks and other similar establishments.

There are a variety of bullet resistant transparencies that suit various applications. Amazingly, these bullet resistant transparencies are available in different thickness gauge and sizes. Moreover, these are affordable and cost effective. Most banks use bullet resistant transparencies because these materials prevent the penetration of bullet on one side, but allow the penetration from the other side. With this set-up, the people are protected, but are permitted to protect themselves when the need arises.

One of the most common materials that are used in the manufacture of bullet resistant transparencies is polycarbonate. Bullet proof transparencies that are made from this material are scratch resistant, weather resistant, tint permissible, and lighter than laminated glass. While there are other materials used for making bullet resistant transparencies, these basically result to similar properties.

Some of the applications of bullet proof products include bullet resistant windows, security glass, bullet proof glazing, laminated glass, bullet proof glass, bullet resistant transparencies.
