Aging and longevity are hot topics as people look for ways to hold off the aging process. Positive and successful aging is the promised outcome of a myriad of products, procedures, pills, injections and prophets. While we should be suspect of these many claims that can help us keep our youth, there are proven ways we can age more healthily. Large amounts of research has been undertaken to find out how we slow down the process of aging that most humans do not welcome. Aging for many people means pain, suffering, disability and a loss of physical and mental functioning. We have seen our parents and grandparents get old, frail and incapacitated and do not wish it to be like that. Yet the greatest influence on how we age is how strong and active we are right through our adult years. It has been well proven how a sedentary lifestyle increases the likelihood of aging related disease and premature death. When not enough muscle building and strengthening activity is being done the devil does indeed find work for idle muscles. The chemicals that control repair and growth in the body are not turned on which sends the body into 'shutdown mode'. Not enough muscle work weakens the entire body decreasing the metabolic rate (the rate the body burns fuel) and causes a destructive decaying of our body's cells and stimulates disease. Proper exercise that includes a large percentage of strength training exercise triggers repair, renewal and growth. Exercise is the master signaler, the agent that sets hundreds of chemical cascades in motion each time you work your muscles hard. It is what sets off the cycles of strengthening, renewal of old worn out cells and repair of damaged ones within the muscles and joints. This stimulation of life promoting chemicals is also the foundation of positive brain chemistry keeping your mind 'sharp as a tack'. And it leads directly to the youthful life you are promised with a heightened immune system; better sleep; weight loss (insulin regulation and fat burning); more 'get up and go' and dramatic resistance to disease. Your entire quality of life is enhanced when you make time for proper exercise but, let your muscles sit idle and the decay and degeneration takes over again. It is hard to imagine why anyone would not want to take advantage of such a simple formula for staying youthful and strong. Just a couple of sessions of strength training exercise each week that need only take 30-40 minutes if done properly. And for that to happen it is best to seek the help of a fitness professional so you can get the very best results out of your program in the shortest time. Wasting time and effort with ineffective and low intensity 'fluff' along with the wrong type of activity that is not proper muscle strengthening exercise will not give you the promised anti aging benefits. Staying strong and healthy requires action; your proper exercise program and a positive outlook are the key factors in maintaining your good health no matter your age.
