Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Strength Training Can Save You From The Unhealthy Foods That Cause Diabetes

2010-05-09

Study after study is showing how strength training exercise can help those people with high blood sugar levels whether they are in a pre-diabetic state or have full blown diabetes. We are all at risk of this modern day 'chronic lifestyle disease'. With our diets full of highly processed 'so called foods' full of refined sugars and man made fats with little to zero nutrition we send our blood glucose levels on a roller coaster ride every single day.

The end result is that we end up weighing more than we should along with being robbed of our energy levels and vitality. Less energy causes us to feel less motivation to exercise and be active and we end up having to keep buying bigger clothes. This recipe of eating too much of the wrong foods and exercising too little is also doing deadly damage to blood vessels, organs, tissues and cells.

Because we cannot see this damage we rarely worry about it and continue on down the path to poor health without even realizing it. We continue to eat low quality sugar and fat laden food items and literally dig our own grave with our teeth. Over time the damage from high and heavily fluctuating blood sugar levels is so great is can shave years or even decades off our life. By the time symptoms of poor health appear there is no cure and the damage cannot be repaired.

You need to fix what is leading you down this path to disease and you need to fix it now. A simple strength training program done with a bit of effort 2-3 times each week is the first most important place to begin. Anyone who is overweight has nutritional disorders and is highly likely to have blood sugar levels that are too high or bounce around wildly.

Strength training is critical to reduce excess sugar (glucose) in the blood as proper exercise targets muscles directly strengthening and toning them so they can process more glucose. Fuel (calories) is burnt in the muscle cells for energy and if muscles are allowed to become weak and flabby they cannot burn much fuel so sugar in the blood from all these high sugar foods has nowhere to go.

This sugar stays in the blood stream along with high insulin levels as our body tries desperately to process the sugar. It is the high sugar along with the high insulin levels lying around and getting into places it should not be is what causes the damage to tissues and organs. You do not get sick from diabetes itself you get sick when the damage to other body parts becomes great and the wheels fall off something else - something important like the heart for example or the brain. This is a terrible risk to take and it is so simple to eliminate much of this risk.

Your strength training program not only reduces blood sugar levels, it strengthens muscles, bone, and your heart and its pipes which are important as people with high blood sugar double or quadruple the risk of heart disease. It will also help manage your weight as high blood sugar and becoming overweight usually go hand in hand.

So you can see just a simple strength training program has much to offer and can be a buffer against the avalanche of unhealthy foods that we get tempted by. Using your muscles with resistance will gobble up some of those excess sugars and fats harmlessly and give your body a hand to process them so they cannot harm you.
