Latest Breaking News - Home Improvement - Viewing: Six Tips For Choosing The Best Round Area Rugs

Saturday, January 30, 2010

Many people today feel that round area rugs are very important for adding a bit of class and charm to a room. Among other things, using a round shape often helps offset the tendency towards straight lines and angles created by flagstone and hardwood floors. That said, if you are searching for the perfect rug, you will need to think about more than just the design. By keeping six basic elements in mind, you will have a better chance of finding a rug that will enhance your decor, as well as provide years of service.

Round, Half Circle, and Oval Rugs

Even though you may want to have perfectly round rug, some rooms in your home may not be suitable for this particular shape. For example, you may have a room that has more of a rectangle shape to it. Rather than buy a round rug that will not fit properly, you are better off purchasing an oval rug, or even one with that is a half circle. When you choose a rug that has some rounded dimensions, you will still get the benefits associated with round area rugs. At the same time, you won't have to worry about a rug that is actually too small for a specific purpose.

Choosing the Right Size

Oddly enough, choosing the right size for round shaped area rugs is a harder than you might expect. Consider a situation where you want to put a rug under a round dining table. For the most part, you will want a rug that extends at least 1 1 /2 feet out from the edge of the table. If the table is already a bit larger than normal for the room, you may have hard time getting a round rug that will be centered properly. This is especially important to consider in a room that has a rectangular shape. The last thing you will want to do is have a round rug that is not centered properly, or one that has the edges overlapping the floor mouldings.

Finding A Rug That is Easy to Anchor

When you have round rug, it is very likely that you will be walking over the edges. This, in turn, will always create a situation where the rug will be more included to stretch out or bunch up. At some point, you will most likely wind up tripping over the rug if you are not careful. Fortunately, you can purchase special rug anchoring material that will prevent the rug from developing these issues. In addition, if you can avoid using tacks to nail the rug down, you will not have to worry about damaging any floor material beneath the rug. As may be expected, if you are putting the rug on top of flag stones, it will be even more important to choose an anchoring product that will prevent the rug from slipping.

Craftsmanship and Quality

As you start searching for the perfect area rug, you will find a wide range of quality and styles. For example, you may find dozens of rag rugs, as well as hand woven rugs. Depending on your decor, you may find that some designs are moe suitable than others. Regardless of the manufacturing style, you should make sure that the rug is durable. Among other things, you should make sure that the shag will not pull part, as well as ensure that the underlying canvas is heavy enough to withstand a good bit of traffic. Even though a round rug may not cover your entire room, it is still an accent piece that you will always want to look as good as possible.
Flooring and Safety Issues

As with other type of rugs, round area rugs are often made with coatings to protect the canvas. Unfortunately, these coatings can easily disintegrate and leave all kinds of damage to the flooring beneath. In addition, as these coatings decay, the rug will have an increased tendency to slip and slide. This, in turn, can easily create an endless number of safety issues. Before you buy a rug, you should make sure that the natural canvas is showing underneath. At the very least, when you have control of the anchoring materials, you will have a better chance of choosing something that will last longer and work better.

Rug Cleaning and Care

There is nothing worse than a dingy rug sitting at the center of a living room, bedroom, dining room, or study. As may be expected, if a rug looks dingy, you will not buy it. Even though you may vacuum your rugs every day, some may have fibers that will begin to fray. Other rugs may have dyes that will run as soon as you shampoo them or use a deep steamer to clean them. Before you buy round, or other shaped area rugs, you should make sure that they will look vibrant and beautiful after you clean them.

In order to achieve this goal, you should try to get a sample of rug material, and then test out various cleaning procedures and chemicals. For example, you can take a small sample of rug material and then use shampoo on it. If you notice that the sample looks dim or dingy after cleaning, it may be best to look for another carpet.

As you study each room in your home, you may well conclude that round area rugs will help create a more cheerful or pleasant looking room. No mater whether you choose a carpet with flowers on it, or a rag rug design, you should always make sure that the size nd shape of the rug will enhance the room instead of detract from it. In some cases, selecting the ideal rug may be as simple as looking for an oval or semi-circular shape. That said, you should still pay careful attention to long term durability characteristics in order to make sure that your new rug will look attractive for as long as possible.
