If you are like so many other people, you will have tried to lose weight for the long term with little success. Even if you have managed to lose some pounds initially it is very easy to rebound and put that weight back on - and maybe some extra as well. One of the reasons this may have happened to you is that you did not have a proper exercise program in place and you have not made the changes you need to make to your eating plan for the long term. In the past years many people have been told to avoid carbohydrates as many experts believed they would make you gain weight. This is true for processed foods that contain high levels of sugar but you still need the essential nutrients that natural carbohydrates will give your body and are vital to health. Many of the low fat and fat free products on the market today are high in processed carbohydrates that can turn off our body's own natural fat-burning mechanism and turn of the fat storing one instead. These products can release sugar into the blood stream causing a spike in blood sugar and triggering a release of insulin. If you also do not partake in proper exercise that works your muscular system directly such as strength training there is nowhere for the sugar in the blood to go. If you were strong and fit your muscles would uptake much of the excess sugar but if you do not work your muscles properly the excess sugar in the blood gets converted to body fat. This is turn piles up especially around the mid section where is becomes a risk to your health along with causing your appearance to negatively change. The way to lose excess body fat and keep it off involves a two fold approach. Number one is a proper strength training program that boosts your metabolism which is your body's engine size that determines the rate you burn fuel (calories). No other activity will do this so forget the long slow endurance types of activities like walking on a treadmill to nowhere. The second part of the puzzle is a healthy eating plan that gives a balance of ALL of the macro-nutrients, protein, carbohydrates and fats. When you eat a healthy diet you have enough energy to put some effort into your exercise program so you can make the changes to your sluggish metabolism that has caused you to become overweight. Those two things are what it takes to get yourself a strong, lean, slim and healthy body no matter your age. There are no shortcuts and it takes plodding away every single day preparing your 4-6 small meals that each contain a portion of protein so you can take them wherever you go. Your exercise program need only be performed 2-3 times each week. The healthy eating program will give you the energy to be able to do it justice. It is about quality of exercise not quantity, and you will be pleasantly surprised at how fast your results are when you take this well proven double edged approach.
