Migration is said to be an orderly movement of a group of organisms or species. While there can be various reasons why particular species migrate, one of the utmost considerations is the place of migration. Although there has been some identified factors to the reasons why certain groups of organisms migrate in a specific place; many are still not properly identified. Most people would think that migration is a celebration of life since groups of organisms transfer to another location in order to survive; in another aspect, it is also an ordeal. While many of these species make it to the promise land, many also perish along the way. In an area where a vast variety of flora and fauna exist, it may seem difficult to determine the migration activities. Yet, in the wilderness of northern Tanzania, particular in Serengeti, migration activities are most awaited. The Serengeti migration is one of the most spectacular events in this part of Tanzania. The most famous of these migrations is the white bearded wildebeest migration which falls within November to July of the following year. The wildebeest migration of Serengeti is an unbelievable 1.5 million every season. This has been considered as the greatest natural migration in the wildlife. Moreover, this is considered as a perpetual annual occurrence; thus practically the whole world wants to witness these events. Another famous annual Serengeti migration takes place between the months of May to June. This is when the zebras start to migrate from the south of Serengeti toward the central and west plains of Serengeti. The sight is indeed spectacular as 200,000 zebras cross halfway of Serengeti in search for greener pastures and water holes. However, making it to this side of Serengeti is not easy at all. These animals have to cross the rivers which are infested with crocodiles. Thus, some of these animals do not make it to the graze land at all. The Serengeti migrations are surprisingly continuous all year round. As the herbivores leave the plains in search for pasture and water at some time in a year, they eventually migrate back to the other parts of Serengeti during the wet season, thus keeping the migration process in a cycle. In fact, the Serengeti migration is also called as the Circular Migration. Every year, while more than 1.5 million wildebeest, 200, 000 zebras, and 300,000 gazelles cross more than 80 kilometers to migrate, thousands die along the way. Today, millions of tourists await the Serengeti migration every year. People from all over the world flock to Tanzania annually to witness the longest and largest overland migration. While the annual migration is estimated to take place at specific periods in a year, many actual predictions are made today for the exact months and locations for the Serengeti migration. Thus, tourists can come for the Serengeti migration at the exact months and place.
