The World Series of Poker is the most awaited tournament in the entire poker-playing world. Beginning in late May, the action goes on throughout June and July, culminating after a 3-month gap in the nine-man Final Table, where the official World Champion of Poker will be crowned. In 2010, the WSOP will consist of 57 separate events, at multiple locations throughout Vegas. Registraion opens on May 27th, when the live action and satellites begin to roll. The very next day, the casino employees have an afternoon event of No Limit Hold 'em, lasting 2 days. On the same days, starting at 5 pm, the Poker Player's Championship begins. This is a five-day extravaganza of a number of games together:
- Limit Hold'em
- Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better
- Seven Card Razz
- Seven Card Stud
- Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better
- No-limit hold'em
- Pot-limit Omaha
- 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball
There are two 4-day events of No Limit Hold'em, beginning on May 29th and May 30, with more going on throughout June. The final event is a 3-day event starting on July 2, after which players enter the championship rounds from July 5th. The first Omaha Hi-Low split-8 or Better event, a 3-day affair, begins on Sunda May 30th. There is a No-Limit Hold'em Shootout on June 1, where there is a 2000 player limit imposed. One of the biggest games in the World Series will be the 7-card stud championship due to begin on the 3rd of June, with a $10,000 buy-in. There are other $10,000 buy-ins, most notable at the HORSE championship starting on 23rd June. Other events carrying this price tag are:
- June 3: 7-card stud championship - a 3-day event
- June 6: Seven Card stud hi-low split-8 or Better Championship - a 3-day event
- June 9: 2-7 Draw low-ball championship(No-limit) - a 3-day event
- June 12: Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or Better Chamionship - a 3-day event
- June 15: Limit Hold'em championship - a 3-day event
- June 18: A heads up no-limit Hold'em championship(of upto 256 players) - a 3-day event
- June 19: HORSE championship - a 3-day event featuring Limit Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, Seven Card Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better
- July 1: A pot-limit Omaha Championship - a 3-day event
The greatest event of the tournament is likely to be the No limit Hold'em/Six Handed, starting at noon on June 30 and going on for 4 days. The Main Event, however, takes place in November. Many smaller events are also played, with buy-ins as low as $500, or even $200 for the nightly no-limit Holdem tournaments. Keep in mind that winners are required to produce a valid photo identity card, so carry it just in case you end up with substantial winnings!
