One of our health goals should surely be to increase the span of living a healthy and fully functional life for as long as possible. We have known for decades that proper exercise is one of the main contributors to this goal and is in fact crucial to ward of the aging process. Everybody by now knows that a no-exercise lifestyle is a huge health risk yet six out of ten adults do not do enough muscle building and maintaining activity. Each of us has two choices - you can either choose to take an active role in your own self heath care or become a statistic. Lifestyle habits particularly proper exercise and nutrition can either speed up or reverse disease and aging. And it is never too late to make changes. Adults of any age can reclaim great health by changing their poor health habits. The most important change is to implement a proper exercise program made up of mostly strength training. This is the only exercise that will rebuild lost muscle tissue and stimulate 'youth' hormones that keep cells and tissues renewed and rejuvenated. If the muscular system of the human body is not regularly challenged with proper exercise it will melt away and be lost at the rate of one half pound per year. After age 50 this rate doubles weakening the entire body including the immune system which is not something an aging adult needs. Hello nursing home. A no exercise lifestyle sends a person on a downward health spiral increasingly the odds of dying by more than 50 percent. Bit like playing Russian roulette. If you are new to proper exercise get yourself along to your local gym or fitness centre and a fitness professional will only be too happy to get you started and monitor your progress. These people are passionate about what they do and they like nothing more than to help people get started on a journey to better health. They will show you how to do the exercises properly and also change your program regularly so you continue to receive good results. Think of your exercise program as fitness medicine which prevents loss of physical function by keeping the human body strong as it was meant to be. It is not designed to sit all day and decay. A proper exercise program is extremely powerful and has a huge impact of a person's quality and quantity of life. It can be looked upon as both healing and preventative medicine. It will add years to your life and even put back some life in your years. Years of disuse can be wiped away as muscle tone and strength is rebuilt and energy levels increase and fatigue melts away. You will never regret getting started and who knows you may even wish you started years ago.
