We constantly hear how important exercise is in our lives and 99% of us know that we would receive a multitude of benefits to our health yet; many of us don't really make a commitment or make the time for a proper exercise program regularly for many various reasons. We get busy; we get lazy and we simply can't be bothered. And, we believe we have other much more important things to do with our time. We know that strengthening exercise is good for our bodies and would make our life so much better, but it seems like too much trouble and too much work. But have you heard? These are no longer valid or logical excuses to avoid exercise and you simply don't have a case any longer. It is all about priorities and what could be more important than your health and wellbeing. It is strange that you hear "Make sure you get permission from your doctor before you begin an exercise program" when it really should be the opposite "Be sure to talk to your doctor before avoiding proper exercise and becoming sedentary". You maybe are not sure what actually defines the word 'sedentary' or 'inactive'. Well if you are inactive (mainly sitting or walking around) at work and at home and you do not participate in a strengthening exercise program at least twice per week you are a sedentary person. And if you plan on continuing to live your life like this there are some dangerous waters for you to navigate that you should be aware of: For starters you increase your risk of disease to the likelihood that you will be 95% more likely to become sick with any of the major killers (heart disease, cancer or diabetes) or at least 50 others sometime in your lifetime. The risk of the most frightening disease in our world - cancer - is increased by 30-40% in sedentary or inactive people. If you wish to remain well and healthy you will need proper exercise (strength training) along with quality nutrition as your lifeline to prevent deterioration of your health over time. As little as six months of strength training exercise will turn back the body's molecular clocks and rejuvenate muscles, bones, joints along with every cell, tissue and system in the human body. And the big one, the immune system is also given a boost which will help protect you from disease. Your strength training routine must be regular and consistent for results to be noticeable and meaningful. Even if you do not see immediate results it is important to remember you are taking steps every day to reverse the damage of a sedentary lifestyle. The end result of your strength and fitness program will be a total lifestyle change where you replace bad habits with healthier ones and you will reap the benefits with your positive choices. You will need to revisit your attitude if you are not convinced that you should take your exercise program seriously and give it the priority in your life that you should. If you risk losing your health, you risk losing everything including your life, years or decades before you need to. All the possessions and loved people in your life will be rendered irrelevant. A proper exercise program that contains mostly strength training exercise is a non negotiable choice if you wish to prevent your body hurtling down the spiral of declining health and will help ensure you live a long and healthy life.
