Generally people purchase phone cards to make long-distance or international calls as these international phone cards more often than not offer cheaper call rates to selected overseas destinations. However, customers should always check with the international phone card provider for the calling rates to the destination country or state that they intend to call. This is because, certain international phone card providers may offer a discounted or promotional rate for selected countries or states at certain times or for a limited time. Customers should always look out for special deals keeping in perspective the destination country or state that they expect to call. Although international phone cards are almost always the better choice there are however a lot of myths that relate to phone cards especially international phone cards. One famous myth is that international phone card users need to change their telecommunications provider in order to use phone cards. This is completely untrue as phone cards, even international phone cards provide access numbers, which can be either a toll-free number or landline that users call in order to access their prepaid credits to place a call to their desired number. As all phone cards provide these access numbers, there is absolutely no need for a change of telecommunications or mobile phone providers. In fact, even payphones may be used to place a call using international phone cards. There is another myth that phone cards do not allow calls to mobile phones. This is purely mythical as phone cards are capable of calling any telephone number, local landlines, outstation calls and international calls. There was never a question that international phone cards are unable to call mobile phones. This is because for all phone numbers, be it in the country or out of the country, the method is still the same i.e. customers dial the access number provided, enter the desired code and follow the voice commands to place a call to their desired number. The only cause for concern is the costs as different phone card providers will charge different rates according to the type of numbers being called. Most people who are new to phone cards will naturally assume that phone cards, international phone cards in particular, are too complicated to use. This stems from the assumption that using phone cards will entail memorizing long strings of numbers like access codes, access phone numbers and such. There is no need for any memorization as the access codes are on the phone cards itself while access numbers can always be stored in mobile phones. Customers should not be deterred by the long strings of numbers as even if there is a need for entering these numbers, there is no need however, to memorize them. Quite a number of people believe that phone cards, especially international phone cards' have poor call quality. In truth, as there are a wide variety of phone cards available, the call quality also differs depending on the phone card provider selected or destination country to be called. However, in general the call quality for phone cards is comparable to mobile phone call quality especially when calling international destinations so saying that the call quality for phone cards is poor is really a myth.
