The recent game against Cincinnati was a challenging one, to say the least. In the end, Notre Dame gave a good fight but took home a loss against Cincinnati, 60-58. Six times there were ties in the second half and 11 lead changes but it just wasn't enough. Subsequently, Notre Dame loss in a battle of basketball wits against Syracuse on January 18, 71-84. These two losses are by no means a testament of the power and prowess that the Notre Dame men's basketball team represents. The 2009-2010 season has provided the team with the majority of games being played on their own court, which may have something to do with the advantage.

From the starting game in November versus Lewis to the November 24 game against Kennesaw State, Notre Dame demolished every competitor that came into their house. During the Chicago Invitational Challenge, Notre Dame lost one game against Northwestern before resuming a winning streak where they won an additional four games. The trend to win game after game has continued through the season with seldom more than one loss by Notre Dame before returning to a winning set of games.

Often just the mention of the name of the University of Notre Dame brings to mind the excellence that the men's basketball team brings to the court in home and away games. The 2009-2010 playing season has reflected this quality of game with the number of games that Notre Dame has won. Although Notre Dame didn't secure a win against Cincinnati recently, they'll be given another opportunity to show the Ohio team their skills in a game of wits on February 4. The building was renamed in 1987 in honor of Reverend Edmund P. Joyce, who was the executive vice president from 1952 until 1987. Seating capacity for Joyce Center basketball games is 11,418. Joyce Center serves other sports and events as well. In 2009, renovations to the Joyce Center inside the Purcell Pavilion began. These renovations are scheduled to be completed by the January, 2010.

Upon completion, new chair backs will be in place and whether you opt to go in by Gate 10, Gate 8 or the Rosenthal Atrium, there will be convenient access to your particular seating. The circular shape of Joyce Center provides fascinating sights from every seat in the house and the intimate size of the crowd lets you keep an eye on virtually everything from your location. Other features being added during the renovation include high definition video screens and suites. Concession stands are also reconfigured for patron ease of access and upgrade.

The Joyce Center shares the Purcell Pavilion with a golf driving range, handball courts, central kitchen, offices, ticket offices, media facilities, faculty exercise room, meeting rooms and much more. Joyce Center began undergoing renovations in 1994 and received new light, new sound systems, a new artificial floor and north east bleachers. Finished renovations will provide patrons with comfortable facilities to enjoy every Notre Dame men's basketball game.
