Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Not Enough Proper Exercise And Too Much Suga R- A Nasty Combination

2010-08-08

We generally believe that a good or fast metabolism which is our body's engine is linked to thinness, weight loss, health and beauty. If a person has been gifted with a fast metabolism that they can indulge in as much food and as little exercise as they like and not suffer the consequences of weight gain.

However, burning sugar and fat in the form of energy does not always necessarily mean a healthy functioning metabolism. There is another side to this that is silent and many people are not aware of the devastating effects of slowed metabolism that has its origin as a lack of physical activity.

When the human body does not get enough direct muscular activity the entire metabolism slows as it is the amount of lean muscle tissue on a body that drives the metabolic rate. This is why being overweight is such a modern problem as our ancestors were so much more active and rarely became over-fat. Our lives today have us sitting for up to 80 percent of our waking hours so we rarely even get the opportunity to 'move a muscle'.

Once the fuel (calorie) burning mechanism has been downgraded with loss of toned muscle tissue, excess body fat piles on the body causing health problems as our body is not designed to carry a large amount of body fat and still function healthfully. As being overweight blossoms into obesity the more stress is placed on the metabolic system.

Diabetes is a common metabolic disorder that is linked with being overweight. Your body has a difficult time processing sugar and this disease wears down many of the systems of the body as time goes by but a strength training program will help this.

Proper exercise will boost your metabolism and help your muscles to take in sugar from the blood stream. This means it can be burnt for energy rather than hanging around and together with high amounts of insulin doing damage to body parts and tissues.

The earlier you get on to it the less likely you are to have to resort to taking insulin or other medications so it does not do irreparable damage to your body. Other signs of metabolic damage that are linked together by a low metabolism are an excessive amount of weight around your mid-section, usually over 40 inch circumference for men and over 36 inches for women.

You may also have high blood pressure (over 130/85) and high bad blood fats and low good blood fats. Any of these factors will put you at high risk of several serious health conditions. So you do not have to go down this road you need 2-3 sessions each week of your strength training program with a bit of effort put into it. Support this program with healthy eating such as small meals every 2-3 hours, each one containing at least 20 grams of protein as the center-piece.

Do not be afraid to spend a few dollars and get some help from a fitness professional to help you turn your pending health risks around. Our metabolism is not determined by factors beyond our control; just because some people are born thin and the rest of us have to struggle does not mean we can not regain control and literally change our lives forever.
