When women who do not get enough strength building and maintaining exercise get past 30 years six things happen: their muscles shrivel and become weaker, their bones mass dwindles, their body fat increases, their disease risk skyrockets and their oxygen capacity declines as the heart/lung system deteriorates. These serious changes nibble away at the quality of life, making it harder to even do the basic everyday tasks without any thought of enjoyable, active pursuits that return enjoyment from life. Many women think because they are busy and running around all day that they are doing enough to stay healthy and fit. But they could not be more wrong. Being busy has absolutely nothing to do with a proper exercise program that must contain mostly strength training exercise. Nothing else will even come close to holding off the negative physical changes that will suck the very life force from you if you let them. Unless you start strength training the problem only gets worse with the loss of muscle tissue starting in the mid 20's and continuing for life. It starts slowly with around a half pound siphoned from a woman each year and increases to around one pound after age 50. This is the reason why women in their late 30's and 40's complain that they are continuing to gain weight even though they are not eating or exercising any differently. The problem is they are losing their metabolism boosting, fat burning muscle tissue and they are not doing enough strengthening exercise to stop it. Many women are not aware of what is happening to them as the message is not really 'out there'. The medical world has no interest in informing people of these facts as there is no money in it for them if people are strong, healthy. lean and fit. The fitness industry are doing their best to inform people but it is slow going as most people do not want to put any effort into any that even vaguely resemble 'work'. And that is what exercise is, it is the work that our bodies need to trigger the hormones (the chemical messengers) that instruct every cell and tissue in our body to renew, rebuild, replace and repair. This is how this degeneration and deterioration can be stopped and even reversed if it has already started. Some of the many benefits of strength training are that it strengthens muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments, improves fitness and health, and helps prevent accidents, injuries, and keeps your immune system strong helping to ward of disease and illness. Strength training exercise will help you keep away surplus body fat and keep your body firm and toned so that you look your best. You need to take action and fight back so this dreadful combination of age and disuse does not spoil your precious life. Think of it as insurance you can take out and all you need for payment for this protection is regular premiums which are your exercise sessions. Not much to give for so much in return don't you think?
