You've been practicing for months, maybe days, alone in your practice room dreaming of the day that you will be ready to play live in front of people. Fellow guitar player, that day is now! It doesn't matter how long you've been playing and practicing the guitar. You have to get out of your comfort zone and begin playing your guitar with other musicians. Playing with other musicians will help you to apply what you've been practicing and learning. You can also receive some great feedback, positive or negative, that will help you to improve your abilities on how to learn beginner guitar. I would like to share with you 4 steps on how to play with other musicians for the first time. 1. Get started: Years ago, a very kind old woman gave me some words of wisdom on paper. These words of wisdom have forever helped me when dealing with new situations like playing with other musicians for the first time. Are you ready? It's a simple sentence that packs a powerful punch! "If you wait for the perfect opportunity, you will never get anything done!" Right now, make a decision to play with other musicians and act upon this decision as soon as possible in order to not loose the momentum in your decision to play with other musicians. 2. Inform everyone this is your first time: If you are truly playing with a group of musicians for the first time then let them know that. If you are playing with a group of musician friends; even better. Informing everyone this is your "first time playing live" will bring out a helpful and encouraging side from everyone playing with you. If you find this is not happening, then the musicians you are playing with are probably not a good choice in playing guitar with. 3. Watch: It's ok to stop playing and just watch everyone interact with each other. Feel the rhythm, listen to what's being played. Observe how everyone is interacting with each other, and hopefully sharing solo spotlight moments with each other. You will also pick up great playing techniques if you are playing with a more experienced guitar player. 4: Go for it: The statement from above bears repeating again. "If you wait for the perfect opportunity, you will never get anything done!" When you are playing with other musicians you have to at some point just "go for it!" Put your left fingers on the fretboard and your right hand holding your favourite guitar pick and strum out some chords. At this moment It doesn't matter if you sound terrible or not. You have taken your first courageous steps towards playing with other musicians. Congratulations!
