Latest Breaking News - Home Improvement - Viewing: How To Move Your Track Lighting Safely

2010-02-18

The proper lighting can really give a room the ambience and feel that you are looking for. That is why so many people opt for track lighting in their home. It is an easy and stylish way to set the mood that you are after.

You may love your room's track lighting. It's easy to use and glows in just the right spot; until of course you move your furniture around. Then you find yourself with shadows in the wrong places. What is an amateur decorator to do? No need to worry. You can keep the furniture where you've placed it. Move your track lights instead.

Moving track lighting may sound hard, but it really isn't. The key is being organized and taking the job one step at a time:

Step # 1: Turn the lights off. While it is possible to move track lights around while they are turned on, it is easier (and safer) to flip the switch to off first. You may have to turn those lights a few times to get it just right, but it is always better to be safe.

Step # 2: Use a step stool to reach your lights. Never climb on the couch, a chair or coffee table to reach your lights. This is not only dangerous (you could slip and fall), but it is bad for your furniture. Instead, use a small step stool to elevate you to the proper height to more easily reach your lights. When climbing up on a step stool, be certain that it is level to avoid it from leaning in a way that could topple you.

Step # 3: Once you are level with your lights, feel free to move them in a variety of directions until you figure out where they best fit to suit your needs. This may take a few tries to get the lights exactly where you like them.

Step # 4: Now that the lights are in the right place on the track, lock them into place, so they stay put.

Step # 5: Turn your lights backs on to see if they are indeed where you want and need them to be. If not, simply turn the lights off and move them again. Don't worry if you don't get it right the very first time. It will be worth it once they are just the way you want them.

Step # 6: Once you are finished moving your track lights into their new position, be sure to put away any of the equipment that you used including your step stool so you can find it again when needed.
