There is really no better Georgia getaway than a short road trip outside of Atlanta to the alpine mountain village of Helen Ga. To truly get the full experience of being up in the North Ga. Mountains is to stay in one of the many cabins available for visitors. The cabins range from small one bedroom camper cabins that are fairly rugged, but very budget friendly. Camper cabins are cabins, which typically only have a bed, table, small refrigerator, heat, and air conditioning. With your typical camper style cabins, the restrooms are not connected to the cabins, yet they offer a shared bathhouse among multiple cabins for showers and restroom use. The middle grade cabins that are still affordable will typically come with all accessories such as full bath and shower, one bedroom, often a loft for kids to sleep in, and a full kitchen, as well as outdoor patios with grills to cook out on. Then on the high end, you have your full luxury cabins. The high end luxury cabins often offer such amenities as multiple bedrooms, indoor or deck side Jacuzzis, large decks, room service, large indoor stone fireplaces, flat panel TV's and wireless internet access. Over the years, I have stayed in many different cabins in Helen, Ga., but I must admit my favorite are the small budget friendly camper style cabins. The few times I have stayed in the high end luxury cabins, I honestly didn't want to leave the cabin to do any mountain activities, I figured why leave the lap of luxury. The high-end luxury cabins are all over Helen Ga., but the small budget friendly camper cabins are hidden little jewels that are hard to find. The best way to find these small camper cabins is to simply search online, or get up to Helen, Ga., and drive around asking the locals if they know where any of the budget cabins are that are either in or near Helen, Ga. When I can't get into one of the camper style cabins, or when I have friends or family with me, I will typically rent one of the mid grade cabins right on the Chattahoochee River which runs through Helen, Ga. These cabins are excellent for family, friends, and small groups. Many of the riverside cabins offer large decks equipped with grills, and the decks overlook the river. This way, you can get up in the morning, cook a nice breakfast overlooking the cascading mountain river, walk down to the Chattahoochee and catch a handful of nice fresh mountain rainbow trout for an excellent grilled trout dinner. Whatever your preference, renting a budget friendly campers cabin, a mid grade cabin on the river, or tossing out some big bucks for a luxury cabin, taking the short drive outside of Atlanta and renting a cabin in Helen Ga., makes for the perfect Georgia getaway guaranteed to rejuvenate any old soul.
