Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Have We Forgotten About Our Physical Bodies?

2010-07-25

From our head to toes, physical activity is the stimulus needed to get the human body working at its best. If you do not give it the right activity it negatively affects all body systems right down at cellular level. The transfer of oxygen and nutrients to all cells, tissues and organs from the bloodstream is what keeps the human body strong and healthy and this is diminished without proper activity.

The muscular system is where it all happens and when they are not used as they have been designed to be the necessary stimulus that triggers 'growth and repair' hormones is not activated. The body then weakens along with its systems and processes and you are on a one way ticket to ill health.

The first part of this journey begins with muscle wasting. The loss of around one half pound per year is normal for adults who do not keep their muscles strong with proper exercise. This loss accelerates the aging and degenerative process and leaves the body susceptible to an array of 'modern lifestyle' diseases that include heart disease, cancer and diabetes and dozens of others.

They are called this because they are diseases us humans give to ourselves. Caused by how we live our lifestyle and what we do and do not do on a daily basis. Desk jobs, household appliances and gadgets, cars along with our addiction to a screen of some kind have created an inactive world - one where 8 out of 10 people do not get enough proper exercise.

It is little wonder that our modern world with its emphasis on technology and academic achievement is in the midst of an obesity and disease epidemic. More focus needs to go back of our physical being as without our strength and health all other successes and accomplishments are rendered useless.

How could we ignore the fact that around 50 percent of our population suffers from at least one chronic lifestyle disease and many have multiple conditions? Many more of us are tired, unmotivated to be active and literally drag ourselves through the day only to collapse on the couch in the evening maintaining our collective addiction to television.

But it does not have to be like this, it costs so much less in time, money and effort to stay strong and healthy than it does to treat health problems that we give to ourselves through not enough proper activity. How easy can it be to go to your local gym or fitness center 2-3 times each week to get your proper strength training program done? This is all you need to do to keep your strength along with your health if you do it regularly with a bit of effort put into it.

To value your own health along with your body and give it quality nutrition and proper exercise is an inexpensive self care commodity you can give it. It is not some luxury or frivolous idea; this is a responsibility we have to ourselves so our health span is equal to our life span.
