Sitting at a desk for hours can be a very tiring and painful experience. Your back hunches, your muscles tighten, your joints lock... by the end of the day you feel sorer than if you had spent the day on your feet. Having an office workout as a part of your day can change all that. Human beings were meant to move, it is as simple as that. Sitting all the time reduces circulation to your body, so it is necessary to do something to get your blood flowing every once in a while. An office workout can help you do that, and it does not even have to take up much of your day. The exercises listed below are cardiovascular ones. This means they are designed to get your blood moving. If you do them for long enough you will burn some calories too. Doing one of these exercises for only a minute is enough to keep your blood circulating and will make you feel more energetic. If you have been sitting for a while, make sure to take a few seconds to stretch before you leap into action. - Running in Place: I know this sounds easy, but as simple as it sounds, running in place for sixty seconds can do wonders. The circulation in your legs is especially bad when you sit for a long period of time, but this part of your office workout will correct that. If you feel you are not up to running, try marching in place for a minute. - Take the Stairs: Elevators have made the stairs unnecessary for many people, but stairs are actually a great way to get your heart pumping. If you can, take a five minute break and walk up and down a few flights. Try to do this several times a day. - Jump Around: Pretending to jump rope is a great office workout. Jumping up and down on alternating or both legs will better your circulation, plus the vertical movement may raise your spirits! You can even make movements like moving a rope if you want to get your arms in on the action. - Jumping Jacks: Try doing jumping jacks for a full minute. It is harder than it sounds. By the end of this office workout you will be breathing hard and your heart will be beating faster. This is great because you will know that your blood is moving. Including an office workout as a part of your daily routine will go a long way in helping you stay healthy at work. You will be able to work better and longer, and the breaks from sitting will help fight some of the uncomfortable side effects of being at a desk for a long time.
