Georgia Attractions - Exploring Your Own Backyard I try to get my arms around the idea of travel among my peers. I have any friends that spend tons of money traveling to places all over the United States. These same friends have very little if any knowledge of just how many excellent little known jewels are right here in their own backyards. Perhaps it's just me, but I can almost spend every waking moment exploring all of the great little Georgia getaways. I personally could care less about going to a extremely well known place in Georgia, and staying in a chain hotel such as a Days Inn, or Mariott. My passions are the small budget friendly $40.00 a night little one room cabin that backs up to a excellent trout stream in the North Ga. Mountains, or a cheap yet very clean privately owned small $30.00 a night hotel where the owners are present, welcoming, warm, and friendly. I also love nothing more than finding those little ma and pop country diners that have been cooking for, and serving the locales for years and years. Those little restaurants serving country home-style meals, Italian foods, or outstanding BBQ are experiences that make life worth living. And really, can you beat that perfect little wilderness campground where you can pitch your tent right on a wide cascading white water mountain river and go to sleep at night with the sounds of crickets and rushing water? And heaven on earth for me is finding that perfect hike that's just long and challenging enough to make you feel good, a trail inhabited by beautiful hemlocks and pine trees that just make you want to walk as slow as possible, and take in the view of every single limb and branch, and to be finally rewarded by a large cascading waterfall at the trails end where you can become so captivated by it's beauty that you wind up having to rush out of the trail back to your car before it gets dark. The magic of Georgia is finding Georgia. Take a Georgia trip. Pick a great destination, and take your dear sweet time getting to it. Half the thrill is all the Georgia attractions you find along the way. Make it a road trip. If your destination is a day trip, try to make it two days. Stop at those little country stores, talk to the locales, and ask where the best diners are nearby. Slow it down, stop at those little flea markets, ask folks if they know of any inexpensive little cabins nearby to stay at, or if they know of any really good fishing spots. Traveling Georgia, and finding these little known Georgia attractions is my passion. I'm retired, and stay on the road a lot just exploring Georgia. To me there is so much here that is often overlooked. Most of the time these little finds are hidden because they are privately owned by older folks, and they don't advertise because they have such a great attraction, that they have just done perfectly well over the years serving locales, and word of mouth. About the only way to ever learn about many of these places is to just get out, drive around, talk to the locales, and find them, or hear about them from friends or relatives. So the next time you get ready for a vacation, a day trip, or just a weekend road trip, give Georgia a chance to please. You may well be surprised that with some knowledge of these great little getaways and all they have to offer will keep you returning many times over.
I travel all over georgia looking for those perfect little known what I refer to as Georgia Jewels. Please visit Georgia Attractions to see my current and constantly growing collection.
