One of the nasty by products of our inactive and sedentary modern lifestyles is the build up of body fat particularly in the mid-section - the abdominal area. The vast majority of the population has excess fat widening their waistline. After all we hardly do anything that requires any physical effort any more. As much as 80 percent of the world's workforce works seated now and most people spent their leisure time seated as well. The first thing that most people think of is that their extra tummy fat is simply ugly, but what most people do not realize that it is more than just about appearance it is a serious risk hazard to health. It is when fat also lies deeper inside the abdominal area and surrounding major organs such as the liver, heart and pancreas that is more serious. People with this dangerous type of fat may not even know it as there is no easy way to measure it but with medical scanning devices. Even underweight or normal weight people can be at risk hidden abdominal fat which can cause 'lifestyle' diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and dozens of others. It is virtually impossible to lose body fat for the long term without proper exercise. Strength training exercise is the most effective method of burning up fat from around your waistline as well as on the inside of your body. When you use strength training exercise it boosts the metabolic rate which means you will be burning fuel (calories) at a higher rate for hours (even days) after your exercise session. Basically, losing excess body fat, along with tummy fat, requires an entire body approach which is not what people want to hear. They continue to fall for every gimmicky diet plan, pill, piece of exercise equipment or ineffective types of exercise in the hope a miracle is going to happen but the facts are 95 percent of all diets fail in the long term. Mistakenly many people are still doing the wrong things thinking they will lose belly fat. They think that exercising the muscles underneath the fat on a particular body part (like the abdominals) will trim down the fat on that one area. But, cutting out one group of 'bad' foods or doing oodles of abdominal exercises in the hope of getting rid of tummy fat is basically just wasting your time. Body fat loss only occurs when the entire body is exercised properly and supported by good nutrition. Becoming overweight is a lifestyle problem and only a lifestyle solution will fix it. But that solution is pretty simply, perform 2-3 strength training sessions each week to get the muscular system toned up and burning more fuel and get rid of as much low quality processed food from your diet as possible. Just these two things - regular fairly intense proper exercise combined with better nutrition will finally result in the healthy 'belly-free' body that at present eludes two thirds of the population.
