The news is that no matter what your specific interests, there is an event planning job that you'll love. First, let's look at events jobs in the corporate world. These jobs aren't always obvious, since the job title is not always "Event Planner." However, there are people who plan, execute and manage all of the many corporate events that take place every day, in every business. Corporate meetings, or conferences, are often very large and take place in hotels or arenas all across the country. There are many details that need to be taken care of in order for these huge events to run smoothly. A venue needs to be secured; lodging might need to be arranged, although many conferences skip this part, leaving conference attendees to find their own lodging. However, staying at the hotel where the conference is taking place is always convenient, and lends a more professional air to the entire affair. Refreshments are usually made available for attendees, and so vendors must be contacted. Speakers must be secured, and are usually compensated for their services. Often their traveling expenses are paid by the events' sponsors. Mundane details, such as setting up audio and visual equipment, must be tended to in order for the event to run smoothly. Sales seminars and job fairs are just a few more event planning opportunities in the corporate world. These events, while usually not as large as a conference, must still be carefully planned. If the corporate world isn't for you, consider events jobs that deal more with individuals. The possibilities in this sector of the industry are almost endless. Parties are thrown for every conceivable occasion. Weddings are huge events these days, with many brides hiring wedding planners to take over the planning details so the bride can focus on more important things. Working as a wedding planner can involve hiring clergy, finding and hiring a band, securing a beautiful venue for the wedding, ordering flowers, dealing with caterers and even, in the event of a "destination" wedding, flying to exotic locations to make sure the event runs smoothly. Party planning is another option. You can focus on birthdays, bar or bat mitzvahs graduations...the options are endless. You can choose whether to specialize in a certain type of party, or work many different types of events. The activities of a party planner are much the same as a wedding planner. While you built your clientele as an event planner, you'll find many smaller venues that you can work to build your experience. Malls or shopping centers often hire professional planners to organize things like fashion or craft shows. You should be aware that although it sounds fun, being an event planner is also very hard work. However, the work all becomes worth it when you see the event that you planned go off without a hitch, and all the guests or attendees have a wonderful time. If this sounds like a career you might enjoy, then start looking into events jobs to see all the possibilities available.
