Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Do You Know What Good Health Really Means?

2011-07-02

We think of our doctor as someone pretty special and when we do not feel well we go and see him/her in the hope that they may help us feel better. We think of this as health care but really it is not about our health it is about our sickness. Doctor's clients are usually people who are sick and doctors are trained to diagnose and treat sickness.

Even with screening tests and checks that we get if we are well they are all looking for signs of early disease symptoms. And just because they may find none does not mean we are well and free of disease. It may mean that there are no visible symptoms....yet.

But we need to understand this is not health care - being healthy means we fight off disease and illness. You barely get a sniffle and you most certainly do not suffer from preventable 'lifestyle' killers such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes and dozens of others that strike 50 percent of us under 50 and 85 percent of us over 50.

But being healthy is much more than not being sick or even an absence of disease. Our modern no-proper exercise and poor quality processed food diets do not lend themselves to being truly healthy though. When we are in peak health we have tons of energy, are strong and lean, sleep like a stone, are vital, happy and appear youthful regardless of age.

But to have health like that you have to work at it. This means you need to be doing some proper exercise in the form of strength training 2-3 times each week as your muscular strength is at the very core of health. It is the engine room of your body and its health and condition is vital. Weak flabby muscles are the first sign of disuse and premature aging.

Then you need to support this program with good nutrition. Ditch the processed non-nutrient 'so called' foods and replace them with 'real' food. Natural unprocessed whole foods that are cooked from scratch and include some protein at each meal.

Just these two things will go a long way to help you avoid the killer diseases that we are giving to ourselves that rob the health and lives of so many people in the world today. A truly healthy body will allow you to enjoy life to the fullest and will mean you do not waste years suffering pain and disability that so many have to endure.

How well we stay is absolutely up to the choices we make every single day especially those to do with proper exercise and healthy eating. The problem is many of us put it off until tomorrow but for many tomorrow never comes.

You really need to be taking the messages about health to heart as they affect each of us.

If they are not all part of your life now, it is up to you to make the changes so that they become so. The truth is that our health and wellness (or lack of it) is down to each of us. We need to look after our health and body as without them we have no place to live.
