Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Diets Are Bad News When It Comes To Losing Weight

2009-09-20

As the people in our world become more overweight they have also become obsessed with dieting. We starve ourselves on diets of all kinds and then we binge on all the foods we have been deprived of and gain all the weight back - plus some extra as well. The weight loss pills we swallow increase our metabolism (our body's engine) - temporarily. However, when we stop taking them, our metabolism slows back down and the weight piles back on.

We are on a constant roller coaster with no end in sight, with each plunge down followed by another steep uphill climb.

The reason we are so obsessed with trying to get rid of the body fat is that 85% of us are suffering from being overweight and what's worse it is killing us. Just in the US each day 2700 people die of preventable disease and millions more suffer from incurable diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes and at least 50 others. These problems are related our poor health fueled by inadequate nutrition and lack of exercise.

None of the miracle diets are even making a dent in the gloomy overweight statistics. Not because we don't lose weight on a diet - we do, but the problem is we gain it back again and negatively alter our metabolism, making it harder to lose weight in the future.

Despite past diet failures we succumb to the next miracle diet that promises a new thinner body and each one we go on we swear it will be the last. But as long as we believe in diets it will never be the last one.

Diets will never give us a lean, strong and healthy body. They make us fatter and unhealthier and do more damage to the chemistry of our metabolism than our bad eating habits and being over fat. The big problem with diets is the focus on losing weight as opposed to losing fat.

New studies have proven the diets:
• Physically damage our body's chemistry
• Send our body into 'survival mode' forcing our body to store more fat
• Give us intense food cravings and make us more obsessed with food
• Cause us to lose muscle tissue which means we burn less fuel making us fatter

Scientific research has shown us what it takes for our bodies to be healthy yet this information has not filtered down to the people that need it most. A multitude of gimmicks, myths and health fads along with misinformation about just what proper exercise and healthy eating is cloud the issue of balance. This makes it very difficult for people to distinguish the good from the bad.

Let's look at the two main things we need to do to reverse this situation. First we need to understand what proper exercise is. It is not walking; it is not jogging or cycling or any other 'cardio' type of activity.
These things are recreational and are great as part of an active lifestyle but do not replace a proper exercise program that works the muscles through their full ranges of movement under a load (resistance) as in strength training exercise. And guess what? You also need to put some effort into it.

This is the only exercise that will give an increased metabolism which is what you need for body fat loss. End of story.

Your eating for weight loss should involve as many natural whole foods cooked from scratch as possible. Get rid of anything in a pretty bag or box. Eat 5-7 meals every 2-3 hours throughout the day each with 20 grams of protein and the balance made up of raw and cooked vegetables. Prepare your food the night before and take it with you wherever you go.

Try this simple plan and watch how your body will slowly but surely give up its fat stores. You will get a bonus of increased energy along with an increased feeling of wellness as finally; you are giving your body what it needs to be healthy.

My name is Carolyn Hansen, and my goal is to show you how to burn fat - without starving yourself - by combining strength training with the right foods that increase metabolism, decrease food cravings, and keep you looking trim. Come find out how it is done.
