Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Dieting Is Not the Fastest Way to Burn Body Fat

2009-11-10

If you are overweight the chances are you are looking for a fast way to burn fat and get back into shape. Every day we are bombarded by the latest diet plan or program and it becomes confusing as to know which one you should try.

The problem is there is not one particular miracle diet plan or one particular workout routine that is the fastest way to burn fat. It is actually a combination of three specific components that will get you weight loss success.

If you go on a diet (any diet) and that is all you do chances are you may lose a little weight at the beginning of the diet but you will end up regaining that weight plus some extra as well when you go off it (and you will).

Many people still believe that to lose weight you must create a calorie deficit and this is so but dieting is not the fastest way to burn off unwanted body fat. What a strict diet does is burn off precious muscle tissue because when you restrict calories below a certain level the body goes into 'diet shock'.

This triggers an ancient mechanism that slows the metabolism, slows the burning of fat and causes the body to start using its muscle tissue for fuel as a means of slowing fat burning. All this is a means of avoiding the threat of starvation that the human body thinks it faces. Because muscle tissue is being lost and fat is added after the diet ends the metabolic rate is now lowered and the body looks worse than at the start because there is more flabby body fat and less muscle to give it shape and firmness.

This is the exact opposite of what you want to achieve if you wish to be the owner of a strong, lean, firm, shapely, healthy body. That is what you want, right? Clearly dieting is not the way to go when looking for the fastest and best way to burn fat and keep it off long term. But you say, is 'cardio' activity or weight training the way to go then?

If you do 'cardio' type activity (like walking, jogging or cycling) you will burn calories but like a dieting only program some of the weight you will lose will be muscle tissue causing you all the problems mentioned above with a dieting only program.

You may even gain weight with 'cardio' activity as the body has been proven to store extra fat in preparation for long, slow endurance activity. You need to ditch the long slow activity and replace it with interval training. These are short bursts of activity alternated with slower rest periods.

Strength training exercise is a much better way to burn body fat than dieting or 'cardio' type activity.
Why it that you say?

Because with a proper strength training program, you will burn calories but, more importantly you will also keep from losing precious muscle. Which is what will happen if you restrict calories too much or do too much long slow 'cardio' activity.
With a strength training program you need to do the opposite of dieting.

You need to eat plenty of high quality foods throughout the day to support the program. You simply will not have the strength or energy if you are eating through the eye of a needle to do justice to a proper exercise program. Your body needs high quality fuel to run properly.

So, the fastest way to burn fat is to incorporate a proper strength training program (with a couple of interval sessions each week) with a proper nutrition program and put them together with the third component - your mindset

It is essential to have a proper mindset to support both your exercise program and your nutrition plan for it to have any chance of working like you want it to. These three components together are what burn body fat in the fastest way.
