It is easy to put off starting an exercise program. After all those years of not caring, eating whatever, whenever you want it and not exercising the road back to good health seems so long and the task seems daunting. And anyway no one is going to know if you don't do it - are they? And this is true - for a while. The problem is this dangerous due of denial and laziness goes hand in hand with some unwelcome consequences to your health somewhere down the track. As the years pass by and you are not giving your body what it needs to stay healthy it is sliding into a downward spiral. It is not just frozen in time waiting for you to get yourself moving. It does take some time for a lack of physical activity to exert its toll on us.But it is happening under the surface for starters your muscular system which makes up to 50 percent of your body weight if not kept strong with proper exercise will shrivel and become soft, flabby and weak. Your muscles are just the beginning, a cascade of deterioration follows with the bones the muscles are attached too also becoming weak and more brittle and prone to breakage. Weakened muscles and bones mean your posture slumps and takes on an aged look. Joints become stiff, painful and easily injured without proper movement to keep them lubricated and moving freely. Strong muscles and bones are needed to hold the body upright, strong and to keep the body's chassis in alignment so loads are not placed on structures that are not meant for it. With the loss of the muscle tissue the metabolism (the bodies engine) slows and body fat usually increases both on the outside of the body and inside the abdomen hindering the functioning of major organs. The extra fat places increased strain on systems like the heart and lung system. At the same time it is growing weaker from lack of use - a recipe for heart problems. The increased body fat changes the chemistry of the body, altering sugar and fat metabolism which increases risk of diseases like cancer and diabetes. These are just a few of the consequences of a no exercise, eat whatever lifestyle. You can see how these problems would not only downgrade your health but take you off the planet for good? This is surely not a good option. Would it not be better to simply get started on a proper strength training program do it 2-3 times a week with some effort put into it, keep strong and avoid all these potential risks and disasters? Ditch the processed foods as well if you really want to make a difference to your health. If you do not want to do it for yourself, do it for those that love you. It would be the greatest gift you could give them.
