Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Crowns And Bridges- Cerec Makes It More Comfortable For Every Patient

Most dental restorative methods require more than one visit to the dentist. This means that your treatment can take up to a couple weeks to be completed. CEREC by Sirona Dental Systems is the world's only system for the creation of all ceramic dental restorations in one office visit. With CEREC at your dentist's side, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic, crown, onlay or veneer. This means less drilling, fewer injections, and less time out of your hectic schedule for the dental care you need.

What are Dental Crowns?

If you have a damaged tooth due to trauma or decay, dental crowns may be an appropriate solution for your tooth restoration. Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal. When decay has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth must be removed, crowns are often used to restore the tooth.

Dental crowns can also be used to attach bridges, cover implants, prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse, or an existing filling is in jeopardy of becoming loose or dislocated. They also serve an aesthetic use when a discolored or stained tooth needs to be restored to its natural appearance. In order to accommodate the crown, your tooth must be reduced in size. A cast of the existing tooth is made, in addition to an impression. Once complete, the impression is used to create a custom-designed crown with CEREC.

What is CEREC?

With the CEREC system, your cosmetic dentist can create beautiful life-like porcelain restorations for your teeth. An infrared camera takes images of your tooth after shaping. A CAD CAM computer program immediately downloads the images of your teeth to create a three-dimensional virtual model that can be viewed and manipulated on the computer monitor.

CEREC, which stands for Ceramic Reconstruction, is a recent innovation that many cosmetic dentists are using to provide natural looking crowns faster than traditional crown procedures. This is a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing, or CAD-CAM, for the creation of your crown. This crown is created by a computer to fit your tooth perfectly. The computer aided technology eliminates the laboratory step in manufacturing your crown, which allows for your treatment to be completed in one visit.

What are Dental Bridges?

When you have lost a tooth or multiple teeth, it shows when you smile. Bridges are natural-looking dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth. Since they are custom-made, bridges are barely noticeable and can restore the natural contour of your teeth as well as the proper bite relationship between your upper and lower teeth.

Sometimes referred to as fixed partial dentures, dental bridges are semi-permanent and are bonded to your existing teeth or implants. Some bridges are removable and can be cleaned by the wearer, while others need to be removed by your dentist. Porcelain, gold alloys or combinations of materials are usually used to make your bridge appliances.

While crowns and bridges can potentially last a lifetime, it is important to maintain proper oral hygiene in order to ensure longevity. As with other cosmetic procedures, crowns and bridges are not suitable for everyone. If you are in need of crowns, contact your Lakeway cosmetic dentist for more information on how CEREC works and if it is a good solution for your smile. A proper consultation with your Lakeway dentist will allow for accurate results and an appropriate treatment solution to enhance and restore your smile.
