There are many jobs to choose from in this sector, and identifying a cause that you are passionate about is the first step in finding the right job for you. Charity sector jobs range from office work to running large charity organizations. There are a few key questions you should ask yourself before you begin looking into working for a charity.

What am I passionate about?
There is a charity for every imaginable cause. However, they can be broken down into a few large but vastly different categories. Do you love animals? Animal charities are plentiful. The ASPCA is an example that everyone has heard of, but there are many smaller animal charities, some so small that they don't even have an office or a headquarters.

Perhaps helping those less fortunate than yourself is your passion. Charities that assist the needy with food, clothing, shelter, and many other things are plentiful. Are you concerned with global warming or another environmental issue? You're not alone. A quick internet search will turn up many environmental charities, with specific causes ranging from wildlife conservation to lowering the carbon footprint.

How much money do I want to make?
Perhaps you are looking for a job that will allow you to earn a little extra pocket money while making a difference. Or, you may set your sights high and aim to become the CEO of a large, widely-known charitable organization. The choice is yours.

Do I want to travel?
While you can find a wealth of charitable in your hometown, many of the larger charities have headquarters in major cities around the world. If you're eager to see the world, you can accomplish it through working for a non-profit organization. Many charities also send their workers around the world to. This could include experiences as different as tagging polar bears in the Arctic Circle and providing vaccinations in Africa.

Once you've identified your passion, the first steps toward your dream are the same whether you want to work as a CEO or a field worker. Charity sector jobs can be found on many websites dedicated to these types of jobs. However, unless you have vast experience in a very closely related field, stepping in as a member of management is unlikely.

Volunteering is a wonderful first step to take. No matter how large or small the charity, they all need help. You could spend your weekends in animal shelters, or working in a "mobile library" that provides books to children in poor areas. While these jobs are unlikely to pay, they will familiarize you with the charity, give you a chance to network, and provide a wonderful basis for a career dedicated to helping a worthy cause.

Charity sector jobs are wonderful opportunities to give back, and making a living while helping a worthy cause will give you a great sense of satisfaction.
