Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Are You Up To Speed With Modern Exercise Programs?

2010-08-15

Many peoples first thought when they decide to become healthier is that they must lose some weight, but the opposite is where the truth lies. In order to lose weight you first need to become healthy. Being healthy means having a healthy functioning metabolism one that burns fat for energy rather than stores it.

The importance of our metabolism (our body's engine) is now coming to the forefront not only in the role of losing weight and general health but something else that has moved quickly up the ladder of health priorities - disease avoidance.

All of these things depend on one thing - the state and health of our muscular system as this is what drives our metabolism. So if we want weight loss or health benefits we simply must have strong toned firm muscles. Weak flabby muscles can not build the disease resistance lean strong body that we would all like to own.

To achieve this we need to accept that things have changed and the focus of modern exercise programs is about what happens long after the exercise session has finished rather than the way we used to do it and focus what only on what happed during the session.

The way we used to exercise - long slow endurance repetitive type activity can not even stop us losing around one half pound of muscle tissue each year and can certainly never build it back after years (or decades) of not doing enough muscle building and maintaining activity. And build it back we must if health is to be protected or recovered after sickness or injury.

We place so little importance of the state of our muscles yet when strong and toned we can reap a wealth of health benefits. Strong muscles also mean strong bones and joints, youthful posture, a spring in your step, a better mood, weight loss or weight management, improved functional fitness, less risk of injury and the biggest benefit of all - less risk of chronic lifestyle diseases which are rife in our inactive modern world.

Nasty villains like heart disease, cancer and diabetes and at least fifty others are always stalking us waiting for human bodies to weaken and become more susceptible from lack of proper activity that they need to remain strong and healthy

So do not think of muscles as something just for looks or appearance. Their usefulness extends way beyond that - overall general health or lack of it. Just 2-3 sessions each week of a proper strength training program with a bit of effort put into it is all it takes to grab yourself a truckload of health benefits no matter your age.

When challenged with proper exercise cells and tissues are continually renewed with younger, stronger and healthier ones whereas without that activity they just degenerate decay and die. The number one very best thing you can do to remain healthy and youthful is to work your muscles - hard and often.
