Latest Breaking News - Health - Viewing: Are You One Of The Walking Wounded?

2009-08-16

The walking wounded is an apt description coined for those whose health has deteriorated to the point the person has some early problems or symptoms that indicate something is going wrong in their body. They may have aches and pains, feel tired and listless and may just feel un-well.

These people suffer from 'chronic un-wellness' a state of limbo between vibrant health and identifiable illness or disease. They have not yet reached a point where a particular condition has presented itself and these walking wounded can suffer this un-wellness and can feel lousy for months or years before a diagnosis can be made.

There are two types of illness and disease; one is horizontal where you are forced to stop normal activity like a bad flu, a life threatening condition like a stroke or heart attack or a back or knee injury for example. The other is vertical that includes vague complaints about tiredness and feeling un-well right through to chronic degenerative disease.

You literally become the walking wounded with this type of un-wellness and it is the worst kind as you can adapt your life around it but the quality of your life is slowly and surely destroyed. Most disease starts this way as being vertical before it becomes horizontal sucking the life force from you.

Should we just resign ourselves to feeling lousy? Are our unprecedented wellness expectations unrealistic? What is real health anyway?
Health and wellness isn't just an absence of disease but also an abundance of vitality and vigor. Real health gives you peak lifestyle performance, both physically and mentally. You have a high level of energy and vitality, emotional balance and a sharp mind. Your body is strong and has the ability to fight off disease and illness. You don't get colds and you don't suffer from the preventable 'lifestyle diseases' such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes that rob so many people of their health and wellness.

Your healthy body allows you to enjoy a long and healthy life span with a health span to match. You achieve your full potential as a human being, rather than the shorter life span ending in many years of pain, disability and ill health that is now so very common. Most people today do not have real health, or have not experienced it for a very long time.

So, how do you achieve real health?
You take responsibility for your own health for starters because if you don't look after it then nobody else will. Not your doctor - your parents – or your spouse. You can't just drift along until something goes wrong and go to your doctor to get it fixed. What you do or don't do every single day either helps you achieve real health or points you in the direction of disease.

The two most important things you could do to achieve real health is to spend 2-3 sessions each week with a proper exercise program made up of strength training exercise. Have it set up by a fitness professional so that it works as it should.

How you eat – ditch the processed refined food in pretty boxes with very little nutritional value. Start eating fresh, natural, whole foods (they don't have a food label such as a carrot, an apple or a tomato). Eat small meals throughout the day that contain a source of protein at each one. You will need to prepare your food for each day and stop eating whatever, wherever.

If these simple things are not part of your life now, start making them this way. If you don't take good care of your body, remember you will have nowhere else to live.
