A chronic disease of any sort can never make a human being comfortable. A simple cold shatters our daily expectations so it is unimaginable what a permanent lifestyle ailment would do to ones life.

Chronic diseases are those that not curable but continue during a person's lifetime and can include conditions like heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, arthritis and asthma to name a few. These diseases not only diminish the quality and quantity of life, they also place a large economic drain on our communities and medical care systems and account for 70% of all deaths and 75% of all medical care costs.

Of the people dying prematurely of chronic disease approximately half are under 70 years and half are women. The worst part of all of this is the fact that we are doing this to ourselves. Imagine the horror of becoming an invalid thanks to your own way of life?

For years, scientists have been proclaiming the health benefits of proper exercise. Studies have exploded in number proving the connection between our inactive, sedentary modern lifestyles and the epidemic of health problems many leading to premature death.

Researchers have found that lack of proper physical activity could be a cause of many diseases; and the damaging effects could start within 2 weeks of reduced activity.
Previously, we believed that not exercising wasn't good for our health, but we didn't think that lack of activity could cause disease. We know now that assumption is wrong.

When your doctor tells you to get up and get moving he is not just telling you to do that to improve your health, he is telling you to do that to avoid or even reverse a disease waiting in the wings. When extra fats and sugars (glucose) don't clear the bloodstream by being burnt for energy they go where they shouldn't and cause problems with our bodies metabolic functions.

To avoid yourself becoming one in the ranks of the walking wounded you need to step up and take responsibility for your own health and wellness. Whether you know you have serious health challenges or think you are healthy you need to be proactive today to avoid an inevitable dreaded diagnosis from your doctor tomorrow.

The very first thing to do is getting started on a proper exercise program made up mainly of strength training exercise. It is important that you understand that this is the only type of activity that will replace the 'work' that our body's need to stay healthy. Forget the misleading advice that all you need to do is go for a walk or do some gardening to stay healthy. Well, we all have legs and we all walk but this has done nothing to slow the rising tide of preventable and premature death.

Don't wait until you start showing signs of fatigue and feeling 'unwell'. Take action and make sure the only prescription you ever need to get filled is a program of proper exercise.
