'Use it or lose it' is an old saying and never is it truer than with the human body. The biggest factor that causes people to enter into a downward spiral of declining health as the years pass by is the loss of muscle tissue that occurs from inactivity, a process called "sarcopenia" which means vanishing flesh.

The hard reality of our biology is our bodies were meant to move - a lot. When we do not get that essential movement our bodies and our health suffer. The human body does not lose its function by being used too much and 'wearing out'; it loses its function by not being used enough and 'rusting out'.

Vigorous movement is the master signaling system that tells our cells to grow, repair and replace instead of fade. As there is little 'work' for our body anymore in our daily life to trigger this biological mechanism we need to put proper intentional strength training exercise into our life if our health is important to us.

By keeping our body strong with proper exercise, that process of rejuvenation is spread throughout every cell and tissue making us more youthful both on the inside and the outside of our body right down at cellular level.

When we perform our strength training program and work our muscles directly they release specific substances that travel via the bloodstream telling the body to remain strong. On the other hand sedentary muscles let out a steady stream of chemicals that tell the brain that this body is no longer needed and instruct the cells to decay and degenerate - day after day after day.

It is surprising that eight out of ten people do not exercise and many claim that they are too busy or are just not motivated to take the time out of their busy life to do a couple of sessions of proper exercise each week.

If the multitude of fantastic health and longevity benefits doe not motivate you then run this movie through your mind. Picture yourself 10, 20 or more years from now if you do not dig deep and find the motivation that is really inside all of us - it just takes action to get the wheel turning.

What do you really think your life might be like in the future if you put it off any longer? Do you think you will have a strong lean body? Do you think you will be youthful, active, disease free, vibrant, and energetic? Or it possible you will be weak, feeble, ill, in pain maybe even in a wheel chair and reliant on others?

Now wipe that screen clean and imagine the opposite and how fantastic your life could be when you have all the strength, vitality, vigor and energy to do whatever you like because you have set aside just a small amount of time each week to keep your body strong with proper exercise?

Our sedentary and inactive world means most of us are aging at an accelerated and premature rate but true biological aging is really a much slower and gentler process. It is up to each of us which path we choose but if recapturing the strength and energy of your younger days and keeping it right throughout your life span sounds good to you, then get ready and put your muscles to work as they were meant to be.
